Out and About in Atlanta: A Local’s Favorite Spots

Christine Javier, Educational Consultant for and Founder of the Learning Ridge, LLC, offers insight on her favorite hotspots near the Convention site at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

Centennial Olympic Park

After you take a much-needed walk at Centennial Olympic Park, make sure you drop by McCormick and Schmick for great happy hour specials (from 4 – 7 p.m.). This is a great place for those who love seafood. | .7 miles

If you want a little snack (or a few little snacks), Sweet Hut is one of the most popular places in town to find something for everyone. Choose from among hundreds of savory and/or sweet snacks, or sip on a bubble tea. You won't forget this place! | 1.4 miles

Ponce City Market

One of the more memorable places in town, Ponce City Market has shopping, sightseeing and some really great food. If you want to pick up some really nice writing utensils, try out Binders Art, where you'll find a few of the newest and coolest gadgets for you to use for note-taking ... or writing your next novel.

Want to grab a really nice cup of joe with your new NAA friends? Meet them at Dancing Goats, a local coffee shop that roasts all of its beans in house. If you're looking for some adventure, you can always grab the freight elevator and hang out at Skyline, where you can partake in one of the attractions. | 1.9 miles

Buford Highway

A local oasis for ethnic food, Buford Highway is a street with one of the most diverse food offerings in Metro Atlanta. You can have your choice of different Asian and Hispanic foods. If you find yourself musing through the different options, remember to stop at the Food Terminal—it has a menu the size of a magazine with the best selections of Asian goodies known to Georgia!

Atlantic Station

One of the busiest and most popular places in Atlanta (thanks to IKEA), Atlantic Station is home away from home! It has everything you need, from a Regal Movie Theatre to a local Publix grocery store chain as well as wonderful window-shopping. This is a great place to retire at the end of the day and have some chicken and fries at Chick a Biddy! | 2.9 miles
