Carter began her professional career working in afterschool programs. At the same time, she attended college in her hometown of Los Angeles, earning her bachelor’s in Sociology with an emphasis in Diversity & Social Justice. After almost a decade of working and leading afterschool programs in California and Texas, she transitioned into managing corporate membership and communications for the Culver City Chamber of Commerce.
“To say I’m excited would be an understatement. I’m honored to be taking on this role,” said Carter. “I not only grew up in afterschool programs, but I’ve built the bulk of my professional experience working in and leading in afterschool programs. I am proud to be part of such a great association and I know that my colleagues and I are committed to the professional development and connection building for those who work in and support afterschool programs.”
“It was clear from our very first interaction that Lauren has a passion for this work and a commitment to young people and the afterschool profession,” said Gina Warner, NAA President & CEO. “She also possesses a unique skill set in both communications and membership growth that will serve our association and our members as we seek to advance NAA’s mission.”
“My vision is for NAA’s communications to represent and engage our members and the broader field of afterschool,” said Carter. “I look forward to building the connections that can make that happen!”
