The Modern-Day Family & Your Program’s Registration Process

Who is the modern-day family? Well, they aren't quite as futuristic as the Jetsons, with their robot maid, but they are using smartphones and computers more than ever before.

Today, one in five American adults are "smartphone-only" internet users. They own smartphones, but they do not have a traditional home broadband service. So many Americans have adopted internet, cell phone and smartphone technologies, that the market is nearly saturated.

But are afterschool and child care programs keeping up with their modern-day families?

Now that it's prime child care registration season, it's a good time to look at how well your registration software is working. Do you do registration like the Flintstones (with paper) or like the Jetsons (with software)?

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Can your families access and complete your program's registration forms through their smartphones?
  • Can your families manage child care schedules and contracts through their smartphones?
  • Can your families pay for your program's services through their smartphones?

If your families can't do any of the above, it may be time to look for new software.

In order for afterschool programs to succeed, they need to have four things: strong curriculum, the most proficient staff possible, effective registration and program management software, and great families. With all four of those, your program can be out of this world.
