The Walking Classroom is a national award-winning education program that provides students and teachers with an innovative way to get exercise without sacrificing instructional time. Students take a brisk walk while listening to standards-aligned, kid-friendly, educational podcasts either on our preloaded WalkKit audio players or our mobile app. The nonprofit program’s “Walk, Listen, and Learn” methodology capitalizes on the favorable link between exercise and cognitive function. Preloaded WalkKits contain a schoolyear’s worth of podcasts and can be shared among classes and reused year after year.
Podcast topics include language arts, science, and social studies and are appropriate for students in grades 3 through 8. Each podcast begins with a health message to build health literacy and character values are woven throughout the podcast narrative to support social and emotional learning. Available Discussion Guides provide podcast summaries along with discussion questions to spark lively conversations.
The program offers a great way for kids to stay socially distant while getting fresh air, exercise, and academic enrichment.
