Leadership Intensive Retreats
When out-of-school time providers increase their skills and confidence as leaders, it benefits the young people they work with and their programs as a whole. CalSAC’s leadership and management training deepens the knowledge, skill and abilities of out-of-school time professionals, helping them lead and manage high-quality programs that bring out the best in the young people they serve.

CalSAC provides a diverse array of free and low-cost experiential, interactive training and learning opportunities that build the skills and confidence of youth development professionals at all levels, from line staff and practitioners to managers and program directors. From STEM to social and emotional learning to equity-based leadership, CalSAC has over 800 hours of curriculum available to meet a range of interests and needs. To get started, simply choose from an array of onsite or online training topics or programs and select your preferred date and time.

Sharpening Managerial & Supervisory Skills (Part 2) – Giving and Receiving Feedback

New Manager ~ Now What? One of the roles of a new or emerging manager will be to give staff feedback to stretch and grow their skills. It is a well-known fact that giving and receiving feedback can be an uncomfortable and an intimidating experience. In this workshop, participants will learn how to deliver feedback, practice giving feedback, and gain the confidence to deliver feedback and handle tough conversations.

Creating Affirming Learning Environments for LGBTQ+ Youth

This session will focus on the experiences and needs of LGBTQ+ young people in virtual program settings. This includes proactive strategies for fostering a “positive” and “inclusive” environment for all youth in your program. This session is geared towards afterschool youth workers, coordinators and support staff and includes opportunities for dialogue, skill building and reflection.

Empathy, Racism, and Bias to find your ART in Leadership

Engaging your creative potential to enhance your leadership. This session is designed to combine leadership development concepts with theatre arts framework that will enhance your leadership quality in life and the workplace. This session is where you will explore how to be an effective communicator, become an active listener, evoke empathy through a professional lens; understand bias so that leaders are providing equitable and inclusive leadership that is anti-racist. We want to implement a more effective workplace environment for both the educator, colleagues and youth. Let’s lean in to the discomfort that promotes change!

Self-Care for Advocates

As we battle the pandemic, support the community, experience personal and professional uncertainty, and sift through election news, it is important that we continue to care for ourselves. Dr. Joe Bargione from the Bounce Coalition will lead us through a self-care workshop to help us maintain the energy we need to continue our advocacy on behalf of Kentucky kids.
