Vacation: A Great Time to Not Think About Work

On vacation last summer, I visited the Elliot Bay Bookstore in Seattle, Washington—IMO one of the best independent bookstores in the nation—and picked up Jenny Lawson's new book: You Are Here: An Owner's Manual for Dangerous Minds.

Now, I love this book. But be forewarned: It's written for mature (ha!) audiences and does have some NSFW language. I figured that was OK because we're all grown-ups here, but if you would be offended by a bit of profanity used periodically, stop reading here.

For those of you who are still with me, this book has a lot of great wisdom with just enough crazy and cool illustrations and quotes to grab my attention instantly. The author talks about real issues—such as social anxiety, depression and life's problems—and approaches the issues with humorous observations, words of wisdom and beautiful doodles.

"It's a coloring book if you like to color," Lawson describes her book. "It's a journal if you like to write in books that make you question what's going on. It's a set of posters that make you feel less alone. It's a collection of one-page stories or important sentences or pictures to tape on bathroom mirrors for strangers to see, or to hand to friends."

You Are Here: An Owner's Manual for Dangerous Minds made me think, laugh, reflect, write and think some more. For those of you who like that kind of thing, you MUST treat yourself to a copy of this book today! To read more about the book from the author's perspective or to order the book, click here.
